Migration of an old archive to a new one ensuring long-term security.

• Initial situation.

A traditional Swiss bank with several thousand employees in more than 50 branches was increasingly reaching the limits with its current data archiving system. Secure and trouble-free operations could not be guaranteed any longer. Particular challenge: a data volume of approximately 3.2 billion documents.

• Analysis and measures.

A precise analysis of the current situation and the targets to be met was evaluated in several preparatory meetings with the client. As a result, ISIX drew up a proof of concept and a time frame for implementing the measures.

• Implementation.

Within 3 months 3.2 billion documents were exported from the existing archive to a new one during uninterrupted operations. On client's request parts of the old archive were consolidated, data converted and, where applicable the index was updated in order to ensure a standardized data structure compliant with current requirements.

• Result.

Since 2013 the new archive is working smoothly. The change of platform does not only ensure much more efficient flow of work, operating costs could also be reduced considerably.
